Cleveland Curse

Being a Cleveland Fan is all about “next year”

An open letter to Randy Lerner.

12:30 am Cleveland Browns

Mr. Lerner,
We have never had the pleasure of meeting, sir, and I would imagine that it’s a good thing for both of us. See, if we were to meet, I would have a hard time containing the contempt I hold for you.  You see, I’ve been a Cleveland Browns fan as long as I can remember of my soon to be 37 years on this Earth.  I wasn’t lucky enough to be born into a billionaire family.  I would love the opportunity to own this NFL franchise. But this team that “plays” for our entertainment every Sunday isn’t even close to NFL-caliber. You should be ashamed of yourself.  Your family has had 11 years to rebuild this organization, and quite frankly this should go down as one of the most epic failures of all time.  Just how long does it take before we’re rebuilt??? Pretend for one minute that our beloved Browns were your precious Aston Villa soccer team.  Would you stand for Aston Villa being this poor of a team?
You need to do one of two things: 1.) Sell the team to someone or some group who truly cares about our city, our team and their history together. (Do you even know this team’s history?)  2.) Hire a person to be directly under you that is not only a football-minded person, but will be in charge of putting the right personnel in place from the next person below them all the way down to the waterboys in order to turn this organization around and keep it headed in the right direction. Whatever it takes!  That should be your mantra, Mr. Lerner.  God knows you can afford it!
You can’t possibly expect even the loyal die-hard fans of the Cleveland Browns to stand for this much longer. To quote a popular song, “How many times can I break ’til I shatter?”  Indeed how many times, Mr. Lerner?
