I haven’t posted anything on here for weeks….not that I was in jail or anything but I have just been busy with football season.  So I wanted to post about what a great weekend I had.

On Saturday I went to the Kirk Herbstreit Classic at the Pro Football Hall Of Fame in Canton,OH.  I got to see 4 high school football games that were very intersting.  The first game was my alma mater, Howland High School, taking on a very large team from Houston, TX called Klein Forest.  While Howland lost 27-6 I do think they made a very good showing.  The halftime score was 14-0, and really was only two big plays away from being a scoreless tie.  Late in the fourth quarter the JV teams were clearly in the game to run out the clock.  Howland’s backups drove down to the 1yard line with just 2 seconds remaining. Klein Forest called timeout and put their starting defense back in to preserve the shutout.  Well, the final score shows you the effort of the Howland second team. Go Tigers!!

Two of the other three games were blowouts. Canton McKinley lost to Cathedral, a team from Indianapolis.  Cardinal Mooney beat Covington, KY 53-0.  The last game featured Massilon Jackson against a team from Jordan, UT.  It was the best game of the day and the crowd was very “football smart”. Under the lights at Fawcett Stadium, what a great venue for a game!!  Jordan, UT won 27-24 on a field goal as time expired.  I walked out after 12 hours very satisfied and talking about plans to go to Cincinnatti next year for a chance to get up close and personal with Paul Brown Stadium.Â

Why the NFL Sucks…

 By Chuck

While I appreciate the fact that copyright laws are in place for a reason, what I don’t get is this:  Why would the NFL come after my psych up videos on YouTube, when there was no malice involved in the usage of the footage, no financial gain by their being there, and when there are THOUSANDS of videos using their copyrighted footage all over YouTube?  I think it sucks.  I think what I did should be considered fair use.  I was using it to basically advertise their product for them!  I had 8 subscribers to my channel, and the first video, which had only been up about a month or so was close to getting 1000 views.  I guess the thing that bugs me the most is that I put in a lot of time to get those videos the best they could be, just to have them yanked. In fact I received a lot of compliments on them, which made the hard work seem worth it. So to those of you that saw my videos and enjoyed them, thank you.  To the NFL, you suck. I was really hoping one of the Browns’ players might have seen them and told someone in the organization how cool they were.  And then they would contact me and offer me lifetime season tickets to sit with Randy Lerner in his loge, all-access passes to the stadium on game day, and of course a job in their Media Department paying a meager 6 figures.  A guy can dream, can’t he? Thoughts on the Lions Game.

Should I even waste your time and mine rehashing that pitiful excuse of a game?  I was so stoked for Quinn to take the wheel.  I was hoping he’d look stellar and give Romeo a little pressure to keep him there another week, and hopefully into week 1.  But I guess he didn’t want it bad enough.  Ok so I’m sure a lot of you will say, ” But Chuck, there were a lot of injured starters.”  True, but we have plenty of talent on this team to fill any of those gaps.

There were some shining moments but nothing was sustained…on both sides of the ball.  The only one that had any kind of consistent game was Shaun Rodgers.  Overall the Browns left a lot to be desired.  I am hoping that they are trying to look horrible on purpose to get Dallas to let their guard down and come to Cleveland flat.

The shit has started already with some of my so-called “friends” that are squeeler fans.  Not that they have any room to talk on their end. A late in the game win in preseason doesn’t count.  Oh well, I think I am ready for the preseason to be over.  Let’s just get on with it already!

Word on the real Big Ben…

 By Chuck

I have some friends that are Squeeler fans, but they can’t help it, they’re from there. Anyway, my friend, Jim, was telling me of how he and his nephew, Jason, went to Squeeler training camp.  And he tells me the story of just who the real Big Ben is.

So Jim tells me that after practice, the fans are filing out, and here comes Big Douche in a golf cart.  The cart has to come to a stop because the way is blocked by a handicap/elderly bus turning around.  Now it’s at this point that the “star” shows his true colors.  Instead of taking the opportunity to sign some autographs of the passing fans, he stands up on his cart and starts yelling “COME ON” to the bus.  And he didn’t let up for awhile.  What a Big Douche!

My thoughts on the Giants game

 By Chuck

I know this is way late, but hey I am on vacation spending some time with the family.

First team grade: F

Piss poor is another way to describe them. At one point, when Lewis got stuffed around the Browns’ 2 yard line and it brought up 2nd and 16, DA threw a horrible pass, and started heading for the sidelines!  I mean I can understand not realizing what down it was, but he went back up for 3rd down and threw ANOTHER horrible pass!  It looked like he didn’t want to be bothered with playing anymore.  You could see it in his eyes.

The defense wasn’t any better.  Their first series against Eli and crew looked awesome…anytime you get a 3 and out on the reigning Super Bowl Champs, it’s a good thing.  But that was it.  The wheels fell off after that.  The only time either squad (o or d) looked good was against the Giants’ Second team.

Second Team (aka Quinn) grade: B+

I really think Quinn is the right choice for the Browns’ starter, and thanks to DA getting a concussion, word is he will be the starter this week.  The kid just plays like a leader.  Sure Steptoe helped him out on that one play, but still, overall he played well.

I honestly didn’t watch much after that.  Hopefully RAC will do something to fix what was obviously broken against the Giants.  I know it’s not his style, but God I wish he would get a little fired up on the sidelines when the situation merits it!  He’s like in a walking coma.  His team showed a huge lack of discipline, and he didn’t seem to care.

Here’s hoping we get our shit together before Dallas comes to town.

GO BROWNS!!!

My thoughts on the game.

The 1st team offense looked really goood.  Braylon’s TD…sick, but it almost looked like DA was up to his old tricks of throwing passes to the wrong spot, but lucky for him and us that he has receivers like Braylon, and crew, that can haul it in if DA gets it close enough.  The lightning delay was unfortunate, because I would have liked to have seen more of the first team.  But all-in-all, they moved the ball pretty well.  Jamal looked tough, and I can see what he means when he says he’s in the best shape of his career.  I’d give them an A- (the minus because I really don’t think that, even though he claims he threw it where it was supposed to go, DA made a good decision on the TD).

The second team looked pretty good.  While I would’ve liked to have seen Brady play with the first team offense, he definitely showed me that he’s ready to play.  This is a great thing, because it will force DA’s play to be stepped up.  But I am of the belief that DA’s season last year was the product of teams not having any film on him.  Once the films started becoming available, his season started slipping fast.  I feel that if DA messes up to the point that it looks like it’s going to cost us a win, Quinn needs to go in.   2nd team O gets an A.

The first team defense overall was a little disappointing.  Maybe my expectations were too high, but if they had trouble containing the Jets, what’s gonna happen when they face Dallas?  They did shut down the 4th down play, but that was my expectation on more than just the short yardage plays.  I really thought that this new line was going to be able to get holes stuffed, and rush the passer, but Clemens really wasn’t hurried at all.  I would give the first team defense a B-/C+.

Not that I don’t care about the special teams or 2nd team defense, or the 3rd team on both sides of the ball, I just don’t have time to keep posting.  So with that said, I would give the outing by the key players an overall grade of B+.  I really feel we are on the verge of great things in Cleveland.  GO BROWNS!!!

The first test is tonight…are you as pumped up as I am?

 By Chuck

Well it’s time.  Tonight we’re going to see if Phil Savage’s off-season moves were good ones.   Like I said in the videos, they set the bar last year, and we all want last year to be the last time we had to wait for next year to see if we would win it all.  As bad as it would be for this blog (regarding its name), I want the curse to end.  We all do.  And with that said, I know it’s just pre-season, but still it’s our first real game-situation view of the team that has the hopes of Browns fans worldwide on their shoulders. (Warning: explicit language in the video…but when it’s directed at the Steelers or their fans, it’s OK!)

Gotta love it!
So what are we going to see tonight?  Look for the first team offense to play only a couple of series; and that will be without Winslow and Heiden. So what we will get to see is a lot of Quinn and the second team.
On defense we’re going to get a glimpse at the new d-line.  My personal hope is that they are going be able to apply enough pressure that the concern of our secondary will be minimal. I had the pleasure of being a guest on “Tip of the Cap with John Caparanis” on 1240 WBBW, the local ESPN affiliate, last week.  One thing the co-host, Andrew Ryan, said that should be a concern to the Browns d-backs is that they don’t strike fear into the hearts of opposing QBs. Especially QBs the caliber of Peyton Manning, and Tony Romo.  Now does that mean we don’t have a future Dixon/Minnifield combo in our ranks? Not necessarily, but only time will tell what these guys are going to do.  But again, don’t expect more than a couple of series out of the starters.
Special teams will be fun to watch too, as this is where a lot of the rookies and backups will be fighting for jobs.
All in all, I am ready for some Browns football. GO BROWNS!!!

I love when I just come across something out of nowhere and get a great surprise. Recently, I asked a few Browns players to add me to their MySpace friends lists.  The first to get back to me was Jamal Lewis. Well I sent him the typical “thanks for the add” comment, and went back today to see if he approved it.  He did, and I kept on scrolling through his comments.  Someone had photoshopped a picture of him onto the Madden ‘09 game box.  Now not being 100% up on those things (I gave up after Tecmo Bowl)  I went to EA’s website to see what the cover really looked like.  When the page loaded, I saw this:

Here’s hoping that this is a sign of things to come.
